While your Boxer is learning to be a responsible member of the household, especially while still a puppy, a crate is very advisable.  It will protect him from household temptations and dangers while you are away.  Since a puppy is loath to soil his crate, it is a great aid in housetraining as well.  If you are not a firm believer in the crate system, I have found that Boxers will generally take to a puppy pad within 2 to 3 days. I always tell people who purchase from me that there are 3 RULES that I expect and trust them to follow for their puppy:

  • 1.  KEEP SHOTS AND WORMINGS UTD(NO EXCEPTIONS AND NEW EXCUSES)
  • 2.  SOCIALIZE YOUR PUPPY AT AN EARLY AGE.  REMEMBER JUST LIKE        OUR TWO LEGGED CHILDREN, OUR BOXERS NEED CANINE FRIENDS AS WELL.  THIS ALSO HELPS TO PREVENT AGGRESSION TOWARD OTHER DOGS AS YOUR BOXER GROWS OLDER.
3.  REMEMBER THAT THIS PUP IS IN FACT A NEW MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY.  DON’T LET HIM GO HUNGRY, THIRSTY, OR LONELY FOR OUR AFFECTION.  MANY WELL MEANING PEOPLE ARE UNDER THE MISCONCEPTION THAT YOU CAN PURCHASE OR ADOPT A PUPPY THEN TIE IT OR KENNEL IT OUTSIDE AND THAT IT WILL LEARN ALL THESE THINGS ON IT’S OWN, BUT THIS IS NOT THE TRUTH.  YOU ARE THE NURTURER AND THE TEACHER JUST LIKE WITH YOUR OTHER CHILDREN.POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT IS THE BEST TOOL FOR TRAINING YOUR DOG OBEDIENCE.
